KORO - Rodent Trap
This trap is a pro grade trap. Works effectively and has a super strong kill bar for rats. The spring tension makes setting the trap a bit of an effort. Use the safety catch when setting and watch where your fingers are. I made a scrap plywood box to enclose the trap and direct the rats to the trigger plate, highly effective in the wood pile baited with bacon fat rubbed into the trigger plate and baited with a small piece of bacon on the trigger plate pin. I Definitely can recommend this trap when set in a tight fitting box to get the rats to the trigger plate.
This trap is way better than your average hardware store rat trap. If you have ever had rats pull out from under the kill bar of a standard trap, this trap will not have that issue. As others have noted the spring on this trap is heavy and it does take effort to open and set. Definitely use the safety mechanism when you are setting. Fingers in the wrong place could be broken I imagine. For safety and to get the rat focused on the bait pan I built a small plywood box that is just a slight bit bigger than the trap. This box focuses the rat on the entry and trip pan. If you make the box longer you can place bait behind the trap and force the rat to cross the trip pan to get to the bait. Also the pan has a small post in the back where you can attach bait. I did polish the pan bar with some fine sandpaper and greased the bar with some bacon fat. Raw bacon has worked this winter. Get a couple for your wood piles and get the vermin before they can get into your vehicles etc. This is a rat trap to pass down in your family.
Very strong and well made
The ideas behind the design of this rodent trap are good but the end product is lacking IMHO.
1. Spring tension is dangerously high. The trap is difficult to set & a slip of the hand before the safety is engaged is going to be painful.
2. The single offset hinge causes the pan to lean badly & increases the pressure required to trigger the trap. So much so that even a large rodent would have to stand on & wiggle the pan to trigger the trap. It needs a hinge point on both sides of the pan to level it & distribute the pressure evenly across the face of the pan.
3. The trigger should be moved to center of pan at the rear & the bait post moved forward passed the center of the pan.
That said...will it catch/kill rodents? Yes, IF it triggers the first time they either step on the pan or pull on the bait. BUT, if the pan wiggles without setting it off allot of rodents are going to become trap shy & the traps effectiveness will suffer.
Simple, effective, durable, while exhibiting exceptional build quality. Safe to handle when set and adaptable to a any type of bait. The speed and strength of this trap combined with its hair trigger will guarantee your satisfaction and success!
You need a lot of hand strength to set this trap. It does have a safety for which I am very thankful. This trap is as much a piece of art as it is a rat trap. But if you’re nervous about setting traps this might not be the trap for you.
Very nicely built, will last a lifetime. Well worth every cent paid. I will be purchasing more.
Very good, efficient squirrel trap. I have used these for many years, effectively.
Rats will die.
